Linus Torvald combined with various software developers combine together and developed the software which are required for day to day activity and made it commercially available.

Why to use Linux?

Unlike Windows and Macintosh, Linux is not a proprietary software. Proprietary means it belong to a specific company. Most Linux distribution are available for free. Linux is not only free, it is open source too. We could also get the source code of the Linux operating system and we could modify it to our own liking and we could redistribute under your own flavor of Linux distribution.

Linux is more stable and most common viruses will not affect Linux much unlike Windows. Since Linux is lightweight, it will run effortlessly even in a decade old computer.

Where is it used?

Linux is everywhere and it is used in Smartphones, Smart TV, Set-top Box etc.. Not only there, it is used in fields which also requires high computational capabilities such as Web Servers, High Speed Satellite Communications, High Volatile Stock Exchange Servers and so on.
